Questions and answers with Mireia Prat
Why did you start to play golf?
I used to play tennis before golf but when I was 10-11 years old I tried to play at the Junior golf lessons on the golf course where my dad played. Golf was not a popular sport and none of my friends at school played it, but I wanted to try a new sport and then I started to go to play with my dad and go to junior lessons on the weekends.
You do play golf professionally. What does a year look like for you?
Normally I play 20-25 golf tournaments from February to November. That means around 20-25 weeks outside home. I take December and January off, to have a rest and do pre-season. I use to take a few days off after 3-4 tournaments in a row.
What has golf meant to you as a woman?
Golf is my main job right now and I try to make a living with golf, but after all it’s a game and I love this sport. Thanks to golf I got to know amazing places and people, and it gave me great values as hard work, resilience and perseverance.
How has the last year been for you?
It was not a normal year with the Covid-19…I started the year with 2 top 20 on the LET, then Covid-19 arrived and we couldn’t play or practice in 5 months. The last months of the year I could play in a few tournaments, with almost a win on a LETAS tournament in Spain, lost in the playoff. Life on tour was different, being tested every tournament, only official hotels, no restaurants, Covid protocols, buddy system (bubbles)….hope it gets better this year!
Give us your best golf tips.
Think where you want to hit the ball and not where you do not want to, and be patient.
What do you do when you don’t play golf?
I love going to hike or walk on the mountains, watch movies, go to the beach and disconnect from golf.
If you got to choose to play at an optional golf course world wide, which one would it be?
I would love to play Augusta one day, never been there. From the ones I have been, I love the Emirates Golf Course in Dubai and Saint Cloud in Paris.
